Please can I send a gentle reminder to say that children should not be bringing throat sweets into school in their pockets or bags. If you require any further clarification, please speak to a member of the team directly.
Thank you
Mrs Standish

As you are aware, in June, the children will take the Y1 phonics check. In preparation for this, we are sending weekly phonics homework home on a Friday. This is stuck into the Home/School book and uploaded to the website too (see image below). Many thanks to the parents who are engaging with this already. If you have not seen this, please can we ask that you look back at the last two weeks homework and check for new homework every Friday. This homework is verbal and we ask that the children sound out/segment the real and alien words to you at home.
Thanks for your continued support,
The Year 1 Team
Just a note to let you know that the Year 1 children in Mrs Simpson & Mrs Price’s class have forest school sessions starting on Friday the week after this, (dates below.) Please send the children in wearing their forest school clothes, bringing their uniform in a bag.
Friday 10th May
Friday 17th May
Friday 24th May.
Thank you for your continued support.

Please find attached the letter that has been sent out by email regarding the upcoming trip to the West Midlands Safari Park. Please return the attached lunch form as soon as possible to the class teacher/office.
Please can we ask that you listen to your child read at home 5 times a week. The first time that your child reads their book, they may need to segment/sound out some of the words using their phonics fingers (a strategy that we teach in Floppy’s Phonics). After your child has read the book two or three times, they should be reading it with fluency at a quicker pace, without the need to segment/sound out as many words. Please can we ask that you also continue to support school by listening to your child read the words from the phonics sheets (twice weekly). Please can all reading be recorded in the home school diary.
Many thanks for your support,
The Year 1 Team
Can each child please find and bring in a stick that is about 30cm long (or slightly less) ready to use this Friday for their geography work.
They will each need one to use to create their own journey stick as we move around the school grounds. If all sticks can be handed in to class teachers or teaching assistants when arriving at school to be kept safe ready for the activity.
Thank you for your continued support.
Year 1 Team.
We would be extremely grateful if you could help your child to fill in this very brief survey. There are only 5 questions!
The Geography Concepts document should be useful to support your knowledge of the Geography curriculum that is covered in school. Please ask your class teacher or Mr Auckland if you have any questions.
There are also some fabulous resources from the BBC Geography site that include video explanations of the areas we study at school along with quizzes so you can check if your child’s knowledge is sticking!
Can your child name the 5 oceans of the world? Check using this video.
We would be very grateful if you could spare five minutes to help your child fill in a brief survey all about Maths.
There are also a set of Maths materials that can be used to support your child with specific areas of learning. Each Powerpoint file helps to explain a certain concept. They are designed to be talked through as the child watches each slide. You can also ask your child to take the role of the teacher and explain the Maths themselves using the Powerpoint as a prompt: Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6
Also please find the videos below; they explain the different concepts covered in each year group. Please feel free to dip in and out of these videos; we are not suggesting that you watch them all the way through. The videos provide clarity on the requirements of each group – you could always pause the video and ask your child a question about it to see if they understand or recognise the concept shown. If they struggle with a concept please let us know. You could also use the Maths support materials to support them.
